[Highland Park] books needed for prisoners
Book'Em is an all volunteer organization that sends books to prisoners who request them. If you have books that you are weeding out of your collection (see most needed below), please consider donating them to Book'Em. Also, monetary contributions are always needed to cover mailing costs. * small paperback dictionaries & thesauri * how-to books of any kind * books on handicrafts, particularly embroidery, knitting, etc * books of interest to African-American males (we have scads for Af-A women) These could be sports or any fictional work with a black protagonist, such as mysteries by Walter Mosleyastrology, numerology, wicca, New Age * crosswords, Sudoku Paperbacks are always better. Hardbacks cost a lot to mail. Book'Em operates in the basement of the Thomas Merton Center, 5129 Penn Avenue in Garfield, and books can be dropped off there on Sundays between 4 and 7 (but not this weekend, because of the holiday on Monday). I would also be glad to pick up books if you email me. Checks for financial contributions should be made out to The Thomas Merton Center, with Book'Em on the comment line, and mailed to the above address (zipcode 15224). Volunteers are always welcome on Sundays between 4 and 7. http://www.thomasmertoncenter.org/projects/prisoner-rights/bookem/
