[Highland Park] Request for hosts for Iraqi students in GlobalPittsburgh program
GlobalPittsburgh, formerly Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors, is offering an exciting opportunity for members of the community to host 2 Iraqi high school students from July 6-16th. Our organization is placing a total of ten English-speaking high school aged Iraqi students visiting the United States as part of a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. All hosts will be interviewed and screened. We will be arranging a very active daily schedule for the students and would very much like to have students stay with families with high school aged children, whenever possible. We hope to be able to place the students in pairs with host families. Hosts will be invited to participate in a number of activities with the group. We hope that you seriously consider this wonderful opportunity to host a pair of these amazing young adults. This program is a wonderful way for you and your family to interact first hand with another culture and mutually benefit from this experience. This will be the second year that GlobalPittsburgh has participated in this exchange project. We look forward to visiting potential host families and discussing the program with them in greater depth. GlobalPittsburgh’s mission is to forge cultural, educational and business relationships between Western Pennsylvania and the global community through citizen diplomacy. Founded in 1959 as the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors (PCIV), the organization has established itself as a leader among its network of more than ninety community organizations affiliated with the National Council for International Visitors. By rebranding as GlobalPittsburgh in 2010, the Board and staff have expanded services for international students, expatriate employees, and globally-minded individuals living in our community. For more information about the organization, please go to www.globalpittsburgh.org. If you are interested in becoming a host family for this program please contact Gail Shrott, Director, International Leaders Program (a Highland Park resident) at 412-392-4513 or email her at gshrott@globalpittsburgh.org. Thank you.
