Hello neighbors! I’m an organizer with Jailbreak, an autonomous group providing free support to people inside or coming out of Allegheny County Jail and other PA prisons. You can learn more about us at jailbreakpgh.org. We support many incarcerated folks with both one-time and monthly $100 grants for their commissary needs. Everything costs money in prison. People in prison have to buy their own hygiene products, over the counter medications, clothing, and shoes. Most prisoners with jobs in PA make between 19 and 42 cents an hour, with a highest possible wage of $1 an hour. Since July 2020, we have raised and sent over $23,000 to 100+ individuals locked up in ACJ and other county jails, state, and federal prisons. Currently, we have 14 people on our waitlist and a fundraising goal of $1,500. Please consider donating to our commissary fund to help an incarcerated person survive.
