Attached you will find this week's Community Crime Update. While it has been a very busy week for us, I am happy to report that our officers have made a number of arrests in these cases, and have identified suspects in many others. On a side note, in case you do not follow Zone 5 on Facebook, I wanted to share an interesting news report that has been all over social media this week. It is a story out of Lenexa, Kansas, and it deals with the implications of recording police-citizen interactions: http://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/video-of-lenexa-pd-arrest-goes-viral-spa... While this particular incident occurred hundreds of miles away, these are the types of incidents that our officers deal with every day. Many times a citizen will record the very end of a police-citizen encounter and will not capture all of the facts. These are the types of situations that unnecessarily strain the relationship between police and citizens. I should note that our officers are used to being recorded and have no issue with it as long as it is done from a safe distance and does not interfere with an arrest. Lastly, remember this Thursday, August 6th, from 10am till Noon, the Target in East Liberty is hosting "Coffee with the Cops." Stop by and get to know your Zone 5 officers! That's all for now... Have a safe week! Jason -- Cmdr.
