Hi Neighbors, So many great things are shared on this list serve about this super neighborhood. Unfortunately this is one of those bummer emails. Sharing so yinz can all better protect yinzselves. Yesterday we learned that a fraudulent check had been cashed in our bank account. A legit check we had put in the mail had been stolen somewhere along the way, ’washed’ (a new payee and new amount was entered) and successfully cashed. (Yes, I'm going through all the steps to report this etc). When I spoke about my situation to an officer at Zone 5, they said that in the last couple of days they had handled about five calls from HP residents who were victims of this very kind of check ‘washing’. Thieves fishing letters out of mailboxes in search of $$ is apparently fairly profitable. Could be that we all used the same box? If so, I’m writing to say that I posted my letter in the old school blue mailbox on Heberton at Jackson. I think this box does not have the more recent theft deterrent brushlike device at the opening. Anyway, there ya go. Stuff happens. Stay cool. Stay Highland Park.
