[Highland Park] Apartment Donations Needed for Youth
Dear Neighbors, Extra couch lying around you’re dying to get rid of? Set of plates that just sit in the back of your cupboard? You just purchased some new furniture and are looking to get rid of the stuff you had before to make room for the new stuff? You can donate them to a great cause! ACTION-Housing, Inc. has a program called MyPlace that is a two year transitional housing program for young adults who were formerly foster youth and have now aged out of the system. They are working and many of them are in school. We help these homeless youth by setting them up in a apartment and help with case management services to help further their education, work on life skills like budgeting, health, education, etc. Our program is in great need of any type of apartment-like donations you may have and are willing to donate to our program. We have five young people moving in around the 1st and have new youth moving in constantly. We are in need of any type of furniture (i.e. couches, bed frames, night stands, TVs, coffee tables, kitchen tables, etc.) and general apartment things (i.e. dishes, utensils, pots/pans, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, microwaves). A lot of times the youth only come with their clothes because they have been living from couch to couch and we need to furnish whole apartments. A lot of our youth live in the Highland Park/East Liberty area. They are working hard on their independence and could use a little help making their apartment a home. If you have any of these items you’d be willing to donate to our program, that would be great!! We can coordinate pick up from your home. Ask your family! Ask your friends! Please contact me by email or phone and we can arrange how to get these items from you. Thanks so very much for your consideration to the MyPlace program! ***We are able to give tax deductible receipts for your donated items. We are a nonprofit organization. Any other tips on securing apartment furnishings that you may have are welcomed! Megan Zumbrun MyPlace Case Manager email: mzumbrun@actionhousing.org Office: 412.281.2102 ext. 2000 Cell: 412.480.3576
