[Highland Park] HPCC Meeting, Thursday, 17 MAY 07 at 7:00 PM
Hi there all you Highland Park Residents, I wish to pass on some information to you concerning the HPCC Meeting coming up this Thursday, 17 MAY 07. First of all, the location of the actually meeting shall be downstairs in St. Andrews, rather than in our regular meeting location on the first floor. Please enter through the same doors, and follow the signs leading you downstairs. There are several different functions happening in the church, so please take care on where you are going so not to interrupt or disturb anyone else’s events. Secondly, we shall start our board meeting at 7:00 PM, and at 7:30 PM we shall have our presentation. Our gust speakers for this week’s meeting are concerning the mural on the wall coming up One Wild Place when turning on Mellon Street right at the top of the Pittsburgh Zoo’s Kid’s Kingdom. The City's Department of Public Works plans to begin restoration of the wall within the next week, and be finished by the end of June. This mural has been a landmark in my giving people directions since I moved to Highland Park in 1995, and longer for others of you living in this area. Morton Brown of Citiparks has requested help in gathering community stakeholders who might be interested in a further discussion of Citiparks tentative plans to make a new mosaic mural on the existing retaining wall near the Pittsburgh Zoo. Morton said that he would be accompanied by Nancy Burns of Citiparks, as well as Laura Jean McLaughlin, a local mosaic artist, who has agreed to take on this project and work with the community to design, create and install the piece. You may know her work from the mosaic piece she did for Whole Foods Market. Morton has said, “We would then schedule our project for July-August 2007. We wish to respect the mural that is on the wall currently, and would also want the appropriate individuals who were involved in that project to be involved in the dialogue process.“ I wrote about the upcoming work to be done on One Wild Place, as well as the project of the bend at the junction with Mellon Street in my President’s Column. This shall be affecting all of us in the coming months, as it is one of the three major arteries into Highland Park. I would personally ask that if you have any interest or feedback with this future landmark of Highland Park, to please come and attend our meeting this Thursday. Thank you all for your continued interest in our neighborhood. Mike Michael Millet Nadler President, Highland Park Community Council P.O.
