Postings about the Road Closure at the Reservoir
Hello All With the recent closing of the road around the reservoir, many postings and questions have come in to the listserv about this subject and also about how the listserv works. The listserv was created and is currently administered and moderated by a few Highland Park residents, who volunteer for this. This is not a part of either the Highland Park Community Council (HPCC) or the Highland Park Community Development Corp (HPCDC), and is independent of both of these community organizations. The folks involved with the listserv have served on the boards of these organizations at times, but the listserv has always been independent. I just wanted folks to be aware that the postings and operation do not reflect the views/opinions/policies of either organization. Membership in either organization is separate from membership in the listserv. I know this has caused confusion in the past when someone receives an automated response after sending in a posting, and it says they are not a member. That has nothing to do with your membership in the HPCC. Both organizations do use the listserv to get information out to the public. As the moderator, and a volunteer, I get to read all of the postings sent in and decide if they should be sent out to the listserv members. I try my best to send most out, and not do any censorship, but also keep the number of emails going out down so that folks do not get overwhelmed. The listserv was not designed as a discussion board. The policies and information about this mailing list can be found at https://mail.highlandparkpa.com/mailman/listinfo/neighborhood if you are interested in getting more details. Because the recent closure of the reservoir road has caused a lot of reaction, there have been many postings sent in. Some are positive and some are negative, but I feel that there are too many to send out, in keeping with limiting the traffic to a reasonable amount. There are other venues for giving further discussion to this subject, and so I am not sending these postings out. This is not to say that subject should be ignored or the points made in them are invalid, but the volume of them is just more than I think the listserv was designed to work with. I apologize to anyone who may be offended by this. Unfortunately I was very busy at work this afternoon and was unable to send this out during normal business hours, when this information could be acted on today. But I think that comments and concerns about the closing of the road should be directed to the City's Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (https://pittsburghpa.gov/domi/index.html), to Councilwoman Deb Gross's office (https://pittsburghpa.gov/council/gross), and thru 311. This street closing affects not just Highland Park residents, but also other City and County residents/visitors who usually enjoy the Park and its amenities. Please keep advocating for what you believe is right, and keep using the listserv as you have been. I am not stopping all messages about the reservoir situation, but will be trying to limit the number of postings to informational and away from discussion. Also, if you have attachments, try to make them small, below 1 MB, to keep down the amount of data that folks get in their emails. I often mention this when folks ask about the listserv, but I have been doing this for over 15 years, every day of the week, so that information is getting out to everyone and people are getting connected. I am happy to do it and in no way does this email reflect my interest in stepping down or turning this over to someone else. I am just the moderator, and not the administrator, as we can not do all things alone (as much as I try). Thanks for reading this long message, and I will see you around the neighborhood.
