PWSA Update on the Highland Park Pump Station Project
An Update from PWSA: January 6, 2017 Dear neighbor: As you may recall, a pump failure at the Highland Pump Station is requiring The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) to utilize a temporary diesel-powered pump. The pump is essential to providing drinking water and pressure to several neighborhoods, including Garfield and Highland Park. A temporary sound barrier was installed on the temporary pump on December 2, 2016, which is designed to temper sound, but not eliminate it. While tests done near the facility showed a significant reduction in noise, it is often hard to determine how sound may carry to over into some areas until we hear feedback. PWSA is hearing now that it is still impacting some residents, and we sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. The barrier that is in place is the only remedy available until the full repairs can be made. PWSA originally expected the temporary pump to be replaced at the end of December; however, we experienced some unanticipated delays due to the complexity of the project, and it is now currently scheduled for completion by the end of January. If we experience any further delays to this project, we will provide a statement of the issue as soon as possible. We appreciate the patience of the residents and the community while we work to fix this very complex and critical issue for our water distribution system. If you have any questions, please contact the PWSA External Affairs Department at 412-255-4754 or communications@pgh2o.com.
