Fourteen acres of farmland in Los Angeles is an anomaly. Yet amongst the urban blight and memories of the 1992 L.A. riots, the South Central Farmers maintained an urban garden until bulldozers threatened to demolish their community. Why was the land sold so cheaply to a wealthy developer in a closed-door session of the LA City Council? The city answered, "The garden is wonderful, but there is nothing more we can do." The mostly Latin American community of farmers responded with "Si se puede! There is something we can do!" *Featuring a special appearance by Director Scott Hamilton Kenned**y*, *Dr. Stanley Kabala*, director of the Center for Environmental Research and Education at Duquesne University, and *Dr. Michael Irwin*, Chair of the Sociology Department at Duquesne University. A short reception will follow featuring food generously donated by the *East End Food Co-Op* and *Allegro Hearth Bakery*!
