CRIME ALERT - ARMED ROBBERY - HIGHLAND PARK
On Monday, May 2nd, at 3:35pm, Zone 5 officers responded to a report of shots fired on Paca Way & N. Euclid Avenue in Highland Park. Upon arrival, officers were met by a 16 year-old victim who gave the following account of events: The victim was walking home to his residence in Highland Park from Home Depot when he was approached by an unknown male on Paca Way who ordered him to "give it up." The suspect was in possession of a .22 caliber pistol. The victim refused to give up his property and began to struggle with the suspect. During the struggle, the gun fell to the ground, at which point the victim fled. As he was fleeing, the suspect grabbed the gun and fired one shot at the victim, but did not strike him. The suspect is a black male, late teens or early 20's, brown to dark complexion, 5'9", thin build, short hair, clean shaven, wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt. Zone 5 detectives are working this case. * Note: While we are relieved that the victim was unharmed and did not lose any of his possessions, we caution the public to NEVER fight with a robber. The most helpful thing you can do is to be a good witness... get a good description of the suspect, note anything unique about their appearance, obtain a vehicle description, license plate, etc. -- Cmdr.
