[Highland Park] Save Schenley High School Petition
This is a letter I sent to the Board of Education concerning Schenley Hello, My name is Nathaniel E. Williams, I was a Student of Schenley High 1982 to 1984 (2 Years) 9th and 10th Grade. I love Schenley, even now after so many years. I am making the following recommendations. As of this time: Peabody has 456 Students and Westinghouse has 338 Students, why can't you combine these two schools, and close one (Westinghouse) This will cut operation expenses for that building, which can be left to invest into Schenley. Also, as of this time: R. L. Vann has 256 Students and Miller has 329 Students., why can't you combine those schools, and close one. (Whichever will hold more students and staff). Also, here in Cleveland Ohio we have what we call Small Schools. Example: John Hay High School here in Cleveland, Ohio has 3 Different schools within one building. Each floor totaling 3, has a different school, with their own Principal, V. Principals, Teachers, support staff etc. Then we have 1 person whom we call the Campus Administrator, see Illustration below: JOHN HAY HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS SMALL SCHOOLS Cleveland School of Science & Medicine Edward Weber, Principal Cleveland School of Architecture & Design Tianna Maxey, Principal Cleveland Early College High School Nicole Henry-Mack, Principal Kenneth Hale, Campus Administrator Grades: 9-12 Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 2:53 p.m. Phone: (216) 229-0232 Fax: (216) 229-0072 School Code: 5284 Ward: 6 That's the set up for that campus, and we have 3 other such like High schools. And mind you each of these small schools house 250 to 350 students each In one building. You could free up a lot of money if you condense the student population into the larger high schools, and the same with the elementary schools. If enrollment is dropping then this would be the perfect time to close some of the poor performing schools, and those with student populations under 400. Capa, Carrick, Langley, Oliver, Perry aren't even at capacity. Peabody itself can accommodate 1200 students but only has 465, that's a 735 student difference Perry can accommodate about 1100 students but only has 814, that's a 286 student difference Westinghouse can accommodate 1000 students, but only has 338, that's a 662 student difference Brashear can accommodate up to 2000 students, but only has 1057, that's a 943 student difference Do you get it, close poor performing schools, combine schools, and there you have at lease 100 million dollars to do what needs to be done. You closed Margaret Millions years ago, and it was not even 50 years old. Nathaniel E. Williams Lockheed Martin/DFAS Cleveland Center Lead Military Pay Technician/TASO GP II - VA/Unique Dept.
