[Highland Park] Exterminator
Hi highland Park! We just found a flea on our dogs bed. We gave him a front line a couple of weeks ago and are a bit mystified that he still has them. Can anyone suggest a good exterminator? We don't want to overreact, but we do want to make sure that this does not become a reoccurring problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Ava
Hi neighbors, I got many great suggestions for help with our flea problem.Thank you everyone who responded! Compiled below for anyone who is interested. *Exterminators:* Sani Products on the North Side. Been using them for years. ----------- Gene Becker Business Information: Phone: (412) 486-8272 ---------- Highly recommend: Best Price Exterminating http://www.pestcontrolservicespittsburgh.com/#cid=spps --------- terminix *Other helpful suggestions:* Our vet said frontline is no good he recommend revolution and we have not had a problem since we started using it. First, bathe your dog in a nice oatmeal shampoo. Fleas wash off and die in soapy water. Do not bathe your dog in flea soap as you already have used a flea product and extra can kill a pet. Vacuum all rugs and floors in your home and throw the bagged contents outside. Vacuum your furniture and throw the bagged contents out. If needed, you can flea bomb your house, but if you have only 1 flea, no need to call an exterminator. If you find more, I'd suggest the flea bomb, information can be found online, as you and your pets must leave the house for several hours. -------------- We had issues with our two dogs regarding fleas also and we saw on them much more than just one. We were also using Frontline and was told that animals were developing a resistance to it. I was in panic mode because our dogs are on EVERYTHING and sleeps in our bed at night. Our bedroom carpet is also BLACK-pretty hard to see any fleas. (lol) We switched about a year ago to K9 Advantix II and have had not problems since then. We had been using Frontline for years and then it just stopped working? We talked to our vet and she had been receiving the same reports about Frontline. Our dogs are kept indoors and we starting noticing more scratching and fleas on their stomaches. You do not need to pay an exterminator, just take a deep breath and follow these steps. First, clean all the bedding that your dog uses and anything that they are on, bath your pet in Dawn dish detergent (kills fleas great) and vacuum, vacuum, vacum-dump the contents outside right after. You can also go to the food coop and purchase (VERY CHEAP, BUT GREAT) this product for fleas. I cannot remember the name, but it is food grade, very powdery, and a gray color (Dia-something). They will definately know what I am talking about. Continue to vacuum every day until you no longer see any. AND most important, check your pet's fur all the time for any (you probably will see some, easier to see on their stomach). Pluck them off with your finger off and flush them. They are very fast too. Also make sure that you use Advantix every month year round and you should be fine. Let me know how it goes-good luck! ------------- I used Advantix on my cats and they still had fleas. My vet said that fleas were really bad this year and many people are saying that the flea treatments aren't working. Just know that if you get an exterminator that you nor your pets can be in the house for 8 hours the day the exterminator sprays. We just had it done (I am not a fan of it because it can kill pets and trigger allergies and asthma), but the fleas were really bad. we used Orkin. ----------------- Terminix saved the day last summer for us. Just FYI, my cats had on Frontline and it failed miserably. I switched them to a combo of Comfortis & Revolution (depending on the weather). ----------------- On Tue, Oct 29, 2013 at 7:16 PM, Ava DeMarco <ava@littlearth.com> wrote:
