RE: [Highland Park] Car Thieves in Highland Park - another incident and a detail for Chrysler owners
Last night, at 9:00, directly beneath a streetlight, three black, teenage boys attempted to steal my neighbor's car. Luckily he was looking out a window at the time and startled them into leaving. Not before they had put a brick through the driver's side window and broken his ignition. They sped away in a dark convertible. The police officers who responded told us that the convertible the boys had been driving had already been discovered, abandoned. A man who lives a block away on Euclid, came down to report that the three boys had also attempted to break into his car. All three cars were Chryslers. The officer told us that Chryslers have been targeted because it's relatively well known how to jump start them. Time to get out the Club. dps -----Original Message----- From: neighborhood-bounces@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us [mailto:neighborhood-bounces@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us]On Behalf Of Frank Mino Sent: Tuesday, September 06, 2005 7:28 AM To: neighborhood@highlandpark.pgh.pa.us Subject: [Highland Park] Car Thieves in Highland Park Dear Neighbors: Please be aware that your car is not safe. My Jeep was stolen off North Highland Avenue, directly in front of my house, in the early morning hours this Sunday. It was recovered nearby in Homewood less that 24 hours later, but not before it was crashed into a utility pole, totaling the Jeep and knocking out power to four square blocks. No one has been apprehended. Although the Jeep was locked, the thieves were able to make off with the vehicle by simply breaking a back window and starting the ignition with a screw driver. You may wish to consider augmenting your vehicle's security with a "club" or other anti-theft device. Thank you to Muzz Meyers for recovering and returning the contents of my glove compartment, found tossed out on Browning Road, and thank you to the Pittsburgh Police for quickly finding the stolen vehicle. -- <http://www.highlandpark.pgh.pa.us/mailman/listinfo/neighborhood>
