[Highland Park] HPCC Education Committee and PPS Magnet Programs
Hello Neighbors, At Thursday night’s HPCC meeting, Cate Reed from the Pittsburgh Public Schools discussed the application process for magnet schools and answered questions. There was a good turnout, and I think we all learned more about ongoing changes in the school district. If you have a child between the ages of 3 and 14, you should have received a magnet application packet in the mail. If you need a packet or more information, you can check the PPS website<http://www.pps.k12.pa.us/1431105115023673/site/default.asp> or contact Cate directly at creed1@pghboe.net<mailto:creed1@pghboe.net>. The due date for magnet applications is 12/10/2010. One of the goals in the Highland Park Community Plan is to “Improve the public schools serving Highland Park residents and residents’ perceptions of those schools.” In order to pursue that goal, I would like to re-launch the HPCC education committee. Please contact me if you are interested in joining the committee for an initial meeting. I would especially like to hear comments from people who worked on the education committee in the past. I have also attached an updated list of magnet and charter schools for Highland Park families. Please consider the list a starting point to begin your own research about schools.
