[Highland Park] Suzuki Piano Lessons Begin at Age 3!
Hello! My name is Amy Hogg and I teach individual and group Suzuki piano lessons. I teach piano the way that I learned to speak English. My students immerse themselves in music of the highest quality by listening to the Suzuki repertoire on CD. They absorb the music (its rhythm, tempo, and tone) in the same way they absorbed English. When they have developed enough concentration to sit at the piano (this can be hard work for a three year old!) they begin to learn to play by ear. Just as they learned to speak before reading, music reading is delayed until they have mastered book 1. If they have been listening to their CD faithfully, learning to play the songs is a joyous process. There are three teachers in the Suzuki method: the artist on the CD, the teacher, and the parent. Suzuki parents are involved at the lessons, especially in the early years. Parents learn basic proficiency at the piano as well as sight reading music so that they can help teach their child at home. Students may participate in six formal recitals during the school year as well as various other informal play-ins. Recitals motivate students because they are playing for an audience and they get to hear the older students play harder music that they will play someday. Book 1 and 2 students pay $75 a month for a half hour individual lesson each week and a monthly group lesson. Book 3 and up pay $100 for a forty-five minute lesson and group lesson. I am a certified Suzuki teacher who has been playing the piano from a young age. I recently left the field of education to stay home with my daughter and teach piano. Please check out my website at www.hpsuzukipiano.com for more information. I hope to hear from you via email or phone! You are welcome to set up a time to come observe lessons and talk to current families that I teach. www.hpsuzukipiano.com
