[Highland Park] FREE gardening classes
Hello, neighbors! The Pittsburgh Public Market (between 16th & 17th Streets on Smallman in the Strip District) is offering series of gardening classes called "From Planning to Canning" every Sunday at 1:30 pm. Most - if not all- of them will be FREE and open to the public! (a fee will only be charged if materials are needed for the class). The schedule for the next few weeks is as follows:June 3rd: Women and Agriculture, an informal gathering and discussion, presented by Maggie Robertson of M & M Robertson Farms of Clarion County.June 10th: Container Gardening, an overview of crops, containers and how-tos. Presented by Carol Brand, pediatrician, gardener and parent. If you'd love to garden, but don't feel like you have enough space, or if you'd like to make use of some baskets, pots or other found objects, this class is for you!June 17th: Gardening with kids. Carol Brand, pediatrician, gardener and parent presents this class on how to involve your children and get them reconnected to the earth and the process of growing. Children of all ages can enjoy the benefits of fresh-grown food and flowers. RSVPs are not necessary, but are helpful if you're bringing a group.
