[Highland Park] St. Francis Day Service
St. Francis Day Service and Pet Blessing, at St. Andrew's, 5801 Hampton Street, Highland Park: Saturday, October 1, 2 p.m. Each year the congregations of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Highland Park, and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Oakland, join together on a Saturday near the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi for a service in celebration of God's continuing presence in all creation, and with special enjoyment to offer prayers of thanksgiving and blessing for all our households and for the pets and other animals who share our lives. All invited: humans, of course, plus our canine and feline cousins, birds, fish and turtles, ant farms and hamsters. Leashes, cat carriers, cages, and other appropriate restraints are highly recommended to make for a pleasant social environment for all species. The service begins at 2 p.m. in the Churchyard and lasts about half an hour. Refreshments follow. St. Andrew's is located at 5801 Hampton Street, between North Highland and North Negley Avenues, one block south of Bryant Street and four blocks south of the park, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park.
