[Highland Park] Tsunami/Earthquake relief
Empathy in Action: Pack a relief kit for tsunami survivors Parenting for Peace Pittsburgh (a Merton Center Project) invites your household to assemble a relief kit for one of the hundreds of thousands of Indonesian families left homeless by the tsunami and earthquake. The kits will be shipped by the Mennonite Central Committee and delivered by culturally sensitive local organizations to the most vulnerable families living long-term in refugee camps. Contents: (Please use NEW items only.) 4 large bars of bath soap (leave in their original wrappers) 1 bottle of shampoo (450-830 ml / 13-24 oz; place bottle in a re-sealable plastic bag) 10 cups of powdered laundry detergent (double bag in 4 liter / 1 gal. re-sealable plastic bags) 1 large tube of toothpaste 4 adult-size toothbrushes (leave in packaging) 4 NEW bath towels (medium weight, dark color) 1 hairbrush (remove packaging) 1 wide-tooth comb 1 fingernail clipper 1 box adhesive bandages (minimum 40, assorted) 1 package of sanitary pads (18-24 thin maxi or ultra thin) IMPORTANT: Please follow instructions carefully. Limit your generosity to the above items. Place all items in a box or plastic bag. The kit will be re-packed in a new 5 gallon plastic pail with lid. We will collect the relief items at Pittsburgh Mennonite Church (4005 Murray Ave. Greenfield) April 7-14 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Call 412 421-8007 for collection times. See www.mcc.org for more information about the kits and the Mennonite Central Committee. Or, you can drop donated items (put in a plastic bag, doesn't need to be a complete kit) on our porch at 6311 Jackson St. in Highland Park. Feel free to call or email me with questions.
