[Highland Park] Safety at Dilworth
Dear HIghland Parkers, Although I am not absolutely convinced that a neighborhood list serve is exactly the right place to air grievances about a school, Dilworth is a neighborhood school and I wanted to share our experiences there. My husband and I have been at the school for 5 years now. We have three children: a 5th grader, 3rd grader and our youngest is starting kindergarten in the fall. From the time of Mr. O'Keefe through Dr. Lamar's ongoing time there, we have been very satisfied, and happy that our children are going to such a good public school. Whenever we have had a safety concern, (not many,) Dr. Lamar has gone out of her way to face the issue and to quickly resolve it. As for volunteers, the PTA and school instiuted a policy that volunteers must not only have clearances, but those clearances must be renewed every three years. As a school volunteer, I can say that the parents and grandparents that volunteer are amazing, kind, and responsible people. So are the staff! These teachers really care about the kids, and go out of their way to involve the parents. One instance of this school spirit: every morning the school has an assembly, parents welcomed, where children drum, sing, answer questions, and Dr. Lamar can talk with them about the upcoming day. It was this sense of community that drew us to Dilworth and excites us about each school year. Should you have any questions about Dilworth, I would be happy to try to answer them, or help you find the appropriate person. Sincerely, Karen Crow
