Re: [Highland Park] Strange plant coincidences
A number of years ago (~15?) there was a rash of thefts of copper downspouts in the neighborhood. Many houses (ours included) and St. Andrew's Church were hit. A middle aged guy from Morningside was eventually arrested for the thefts. His hearings kept getting put off, so I never did find out the final disposition of the case. At any rate, yes, the value of scrap copper is high enough for someone to attempt this. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Is perhaps the cost of recycled metal high enough to make this a profitable crime? It seemed awfully weird to us.
