Hi Neighbors, With so many people making garden/yard improvements, I wanted to tell about the Backyard Habitat program by Audubon Society of Western Pa. (ASWP at Beechwood Farms).http://www.aswp.org/pages/backyard-habitat-program The program provides support and education to help you make small changes to your yard giving beauty for you and resources for birds and pollinators. I signed up in 2018 ($35.00) because I wanted my small yard to attract and support birds. -Someone from ASWP visited my property and talked to me. I discovered which of my plants were native to Pa. and got ideas and answers to my questions. Native plants are easiest to grow and are low maintenance. -Next, I received a customized report with suggestions for a garden plan. I added a few plants each year. ASWP provides many excellent and inexpensive classes throughout the year, often giving away native seedlings or seeds. - When I completed the plan, ASWP visited again and I received a certification sign. Not only birds, but butterflies, bees, moths, grasshoppers and the neighborhood children all enjoy the yard. It’s a low cost program that provides so much value to our environment and our properties.
