Re: [Highland Park] Car break in - N. Euclid Ave. Stolen leather bag
Reporting it to the police probably won't get your possessions back but it will give the Bureau a more accurate sense of the number and types of crimes being perpetrated in the neighborhood. That's why it's important to report all crimes to the police. On 09/21/13, Debi Arnett wrote: Someone went through my car and stole my GPS and dumped out everything looking for money or valuables. They got some change too. I did not report it because I didn't have time to wait for the police. any time something has happened in the past they just write it down and I never get anything back or any report of any recovered items. I must have left my car open because nothing was broken. Lock your car. Sent from my iPad

Hello neighbors,
Sometime last night or early this morning, someone went through my car parked on the street and took an olive green colored leather messenger bag. It didn't have anything of significant value inside. I'm a social worker and it was filled with crayons and therapy books and paperwork, but the bag was expensive and meant a lot to me. I'm hoping by chance the person who took it realized there was nothing worth keeping in it and tossed it somewhere. If anyone happens to see it, please let me know.
I reported it to the police, not because I think they will bother with my individual case, but because I've lived in the neighborhood for over 7 years and at least on our block, this stuff happens ALL THE TIME and as far as I can tell, nothing has been done to address it. A good reminder to keep your car locked, free of important stuff, and when you are unfortunate enough to fall victim to a break in, REPORT IT! And while you're at it, tell the police this this a constant problem in your neighborhood. I love Highland Park, I just hate that this continues to happen to both me and my neighbors.
Also, on the total off chance that the person who did take it happens to be on the listserv, or you know the person who took it, please consider returning the bag to me, I won't press any charges or pursue any action. I just want it back. It has a lot of sentimental value.
