The City is doing their Spring yard debris collection next Saturday, the
18th.
Below is information from their website about what you can put out for
the
collection. This is a good time to put out the yard debris, since
it is recycled
and made into compost. The yard debris you put out with the regular
trash
goes to the same landfill as the regular trash, and does not benefit
anyone.
The rules are just like your regular trash pickup: put the trash
out
the night before in the same place you put the regular trash. So
this weekend
and the coming week are when you want to gather your yard debris.
Put
it out Friday night after 6 pm and before 6 am
Saturday.
You can not put out stones, dirt, rocks, manure, garbage, lumber or food
waste.
You can not use plastic bags. If you still have your Christmas
tree, put it out.
Each
year, the City will have two major curbside collections for yard debris.
This
year, Spring Cleanup Collection will be on Saturday May 18
(usually the 3rd Saturday in May).
Residents should look for the green Saturday on their
collection schedule. To best prepare for this
collection, place all
loose
leaves, lawn clippings, and plants in brown yard/ leaf bags
which
can be purchased from your local hardware store as well as
several
supermarkets and department stores. Tie all twigs and
branches in bundles not exceeding 5 feet in length.
There is no limit
to the
amount set out for the two special yard debris curbside
collections. Throughout the year, residents may
continue to take
these
items to the recycling drop-off center nearest you (check back
of
calendar for more details). Yard debris is transported to a DEP
approved composting site where it is ground up and
composted over
the
Fall and Spring. Some of the compost is returned to the City and
used to
maintain parks, trails and environmentally sensitive areas.
