Dear HP neighbors, I wanted to share with you about a fully-supported bike ride that I help to organize called the Bike4Haiti. It's a fundraising ride and there are 3 different length options -- a Family Fun Ride around the downtown area (less than 15 miles), a 1-day long ride from downtown to Connellsville (~65 miles), or a 2 1/2 day ride on the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Cumberland (150 miles). There's a distance for everyone. The Bike4Haiti raises funds for the work of Haiti H2O: Hope to Opportunity, a non-profit founded by 2 local HP families in 2006. As you may know, there is extreme turmoil and hardship in Haiti at this time, but I want to assure you that I know the people and places where Haiti H2O works. Our organization has been partnering in these communities for years and *I've gotten to see firsthand the strength and perseverance of the leaders in these villages* that continue to help their neighbors in spite of extreme challenges. We send funds directly to our Haitian staff and they oversee each project and provide reports from the community leaders. Some current projects include: - hosting quarterly medical clinics in 3 communities to provide regular care where there are no doctors - building homes for families and single mothers that have lost theirs in storms/earthquakes - constructing and providing seed funding for micro-businesses - starting a farming cooperative to help with local food supplies Thank you for considering and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
