Hi everyone. I'm new to the list, and am excited about Highland Park! I'm looking to move to the area from Oakland, CA in the July/August timeframe. I have my eyes set on a fantastic property that has one sticking point -- no garage! The home is built up on a hill, and our relator has suggested that it might be feasible to carve out part of the hillside and build a drive-in garage that enters the basement of the home. I am talking about something like this, seen elsewhere in Highland Park: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52576393/garage/sample.jpg We're energetic about the home but want to know that this is actually doable in general before we make the plunge. Does anyone have experience with such modifications, or have any knowledge of whether this is permit-able in Pittsburgh? If you happen to have made such a change to your own home and would be willing to share a vague dollar figure associated with the work, it would be a great help to me. If you have references to contractors that might be able to help, I would love those as well. Many thanks in advance; hope to meet many of you soon in person. regards, Saagar Patel
