Good evening!
An organization in which I am involved, Cameroon Football Development Program (CFDP), is holding a benefit on Friday, April 27 at 7PM-10PM at the Rocking Horse Art Space, 179 43rd Street in Lawrenceville. The evening will feature photography from our operations launch in the summer of 2011 as well as a silent auction featuring gifts from local businesses. We will likely make photographs available for purchase and silent or Chinese auction.
This is a call for submission of African-influenced art for sale or auction. Pieces can be of various mediums (paintings, photographs, etc.) and must be approved by CFDP before inclusion in the show. Artists are encouraged to join us for the event to share personal experience and contextualize their work for patrons of the event. CFDP requests artists donate any artwork submitted to CFDP for the event (tax deductable); however, we will gladly engage in dialogue to reach an agreement with artists who wish to sell their art directly. A percentage of the proceeds must be donated to CFDP. Submissions are due by Wednesday, April 18. Interested persons should contact Dan Speicher at 724-875-5941 or danspeicherphoto@gmail.com
ABOUT US: CFDP is a grassroots initiative based in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Kumba, Cameroon. Our mission is to leverage soccer as a sustainable platform to empower youth and entire communities in Cameroon, West Africa. Currently our team of Cameroonian leaders engages more than 200 boys and girls with weekly sessions which incorporate leadership, life skills, and HIV/AIDS education with technical soccer drills in a structured and empowering atmosphere in 8 different schools. Additionally, we host monthly camps in remote villages around our home base of Kumba, Cameroon. To date, our sports for development programs have reached more than 500 boys and girls in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. During summer 2012, we will develop a community-based U-16 soccer league for both boys and girls with the ultimate goal of creating a model which can be adapted and replicated in villages and cities across the country.
We're looking forward to your submissions and we'd love to see you at the gallery event, too!
Best,
Jessica
