Host Families Needed for Haitian Students

The Pittsburgh Regional Haiti Solidarity Committee (HSC) seeks two host families to provide room and board for an adult student from Haiti’s Bank for the Organized Poor (Fonkose) who has received a scholarship to study at Duquesne University from mid-August 2010 to early May 2011.  Host families provide a room for sleeping and studying for the student and food (not necessarily prepared meals).  They also offer moral support and help with learning English, just by living together and sharing, not formal lessons. Fonkoze funds cover the costs for books, health insurance./medical care, and a monthly stipend for incidentals.  The commitment from a host family can be for the full year or for one semester only.  

If you are unable to host a student, you may help by sponsoring a student.  The cost for sponsoring a student is $200 a month.  This cost includes monthly bus passes, mobile phone plan, and a small stipend.  For more information, contact Joyce Rothermel at 412-271-8414 or 412-780-5118, or email bnew_42@yahoo.com
