Hey everyone, Thanks for the kind words and the concern. I wanted to note that I spoke to the Target security office, who were more than helpful, and they were able to determine when the bike was stolen (~5:25 on Tuesday), how it was stolen (boltcutters through my lock), and they had surveillance video of the person that did it. They told me to contact Zone 5 police to file a report, and that they would give a copy of the tape to the investigator. Again, thanks for the concern. The cameras are not for secruity. They are part of a CMU project to control the complex traffic light system at the Target corner. See:

It was funded by several local philanthropic organizations, all interested because of the potential for more efficient traffic flow to reduce air pollution.

This infuriates me. There are cameras all over Target and that entire intersection is equipped with cameras that tax payers paid for. Why can't someone look at ANY of the cameras and help him find out who stole his bike? I have never heard of those cameras being used for any purpose whatsoever. There is still a lot of crime in that area - so why did the city install them?
Sorry to vent, but crime seems to be at the same level it was before all of these security measures were implemented.

Well, I just had my bike stolen from Target in East Liberty. If you happen to see it around town, drop me a line.
