This brother/sister duo I got when they were kittens, just over 5 yrs ago, and they have both been absolutely wonderful pets! They are laid back, long-hair, and vocal (in a cute way). Photos attached of... 

 

Freddy Badger, 15 lbs of soft, cuddly goodness...he's a tru lap cat with the sweetest, most gentle nature. Friday, his little sis, weighs half as much and likes half the attention. She's a sweet, quiet, calm little love bug who's a pleasure to have around. She especially likes laying at your feet while you're sleeping.

 

Former cat owners, if furr issues are making you think twice, I understand...but never fear! I'll give you this awesome, expensive comb that when used regularly really does keep the fur under control. They both behave well when being brushed.  I'll also pass on litter box, dishes, food, etc.
