Don't Frack at Our Airports! Hearing is Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 6:00 pm
County Council is about to approve a 30 year contract between the Airport Authority and Consol Energy to begin fracking operations at Pgh International (Moon) and County Airport (W. Mifflin). TELL THEM NO! This is without any public education about impacts of this industrial plan, or public input by citizens, environmental impact study, or in-depth discussions with relevant knowledgeable scientists.
* There will be noise 24/7, well flaring, open frack water ponds holding millions of gallons of contaminated liquids that can cause cancer and disrupt endocrine development.
* One well requires 1,000 truck trips per well carrying water, and 1,200 truck trips carrying silica sand (with dust flying around in the air) for each well -- estimate 6-8 wells--diesel fuel.
* No local municipality has adequate public safety equipment and training to deal with emergencies which might occur: well fires, explosions, spills.
* The required pipeline rights of way-- 30 feet in diameter -- will present many
hurdles to municipalities
