“I’m about the people”: Donna Jackson’s journey to create change in Larimer

The Larimer Consensus Group (LCG) was created in 2009 as an all-volunteer community organization to advocate for change in Larimer.

ELDI has collaborated with LCG frequently since its founding, partnering on key projects like the Choice Neighborhoods initiative. During that time, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Donna Jackson, current Chair of the Board of LCG, one of the founding members of the organization, and an ELDI board member.

With a long history of community service, including as a 911 operator, we talked to Donna to hear more about her journey to help transform Larimer and what she thinks is needed to create lasting change.

How Duolingo is going further for social impact, starting in East Liberty

We spoke to Duolingo’s new head of social impact, Dr. Kendra Ross, to learn more about what the company is doing to be a good neighbor—in East Liberty and around the world.

Catapult Greater Pittsburgh opens Gallery on Centre in the Hill District!

Catapult Greater Pittsburgh, the City, The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, and PNC Foundation celebrated the ribbon cutting of Gallery on Centre in the Hill District on March 31st.

Catapult Greater Pittsburgh was created at ELDI many years ago to increase minority homeownership and entrepreneurship in the East End. We’re proud to watch this organization grow and thrive as they further their mission to advance economic justice across Pittsburgh!

The new Gallery on Centre retail incubation space, part of the Avenues of Hope initiative, is located at 1840 Centre Avenue in the Hill District.

New traffic signals at Negley and Stanton

The newly constructed traffic signal at the intersection of Negley Avenue and Stanton Avenue was activated last week.

The new signal includes 12” overhead LED vehicular signals, pedestrian countdown signals, and audible pedestrian pushbuttons. Additionally, in the coming weeks, two protected flashing yellow arrow left turn signals for both Negley Avenue vehicle approaches will be added as well.

Pictured behind the former East Liberty Presbyterian Church. This uncredited photo is probably from 1930 or earlier. This East Liberty Presbyterian Church stood until 1931, when construction began on the current church building.
