Hello Neighbors -
If you love to garden or if you have plants that you need to thin or
remove, then you'll enjoy the Pittsburgh Garden Swap. This is the seventh
year for this local event and I hope that you stop by to partake in the
swap and our gardening related activities.
The Swap is a non-profit event for gardening enthusiasts of all ages, is
taking place on Saturday, June 2nd at the Frick Environmental Center in
Squirrel Hill. The beauty of this annual event is the ability for local
gardeners to share and trade treasures from their own gardens.
Here are the details:
Pittsburgh Garden Swap
Saturday, June 2nd
12:00pm - 3:00pm
Frick Environmental Center
2005 Beechwood Boulevard, Frick Park in Squirrel Hill
Admission: $3 per person
Join local garden enthusiasts and trade perennials, annuals, seeds,
bulbs, garden tools and decorations. Plants should be clearly labeled and
well potted (please do not bring un-potted, poorly-potted or bare-root
plants).
Other activities include Pittsburgh Garden Stories – a new
activity that provides local gardeners with an opportunity to show off
their gardens. Participants are asked to bring a photo of their blooming
garden to the event and the Garden Swap team will provide a template for
writing a short narrative about their gardening experiences, challenges,
and triumphs. All Pittsburgh Garden Stories will be posted for
participants to read. Select stories will be published on the Pittsburgh
Garden Swap Website.
Participants and their families will also be able to take part in
hands-on, nature-inspired creative activities. Participants will be able
to plant and take home their very own Grass-Hair Friend, a cup-size
“friend” whose hair is really growing grass. Other activities include
Seed Art, nature-inspired puppeteering, and face painting. In addition,
vendors will also be on hand to display and sell their garden-inspired
creations.
The Pittsburgh Garden Swap is sponsored by the East-End Coop, the Frick
Environmental Center, and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Proceeds will
support Frick Environmental Center programming and the Pittsburgh Garden
Swap operating fund.
