On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the City of Champions One Million Step Challenge event will take place in Highland Park at the reservoir fountain and beyond. This event will challenge participants to accelerate a healthier lifestyle by counting every step as they engage in a variety of energetic and fun-filled activities including a 5K walk/run, relay races, Zumba, kick boxing, hip-hop aerobics, cardio pump, volleyball, basketball, hiking and dance, as well as a Health and Wellness Mini Expo. The goal is to collectively total one million steps at this event while motivating participants to continue to make healthier choices in their personal fitness goals.

Event Coordinator, Roland Ford, a 62 year old Pittsburgh native, has hosted the post- Reservoir of Jazz Line Dancing sessions and has really set Pittsburgh on fire with his enthusiasm, creative talent and energy. Roland has motivated all age groups to stay in shape while having fun with his Soul Line Dancing, Urban Ballroom, and Chicago Stepping classes, as well as a Healthy Lifestyle 2011 program.  Roland is a Certified Group Exercise Instructor, DJ, choreographer and marathon runner.  He has conducted dance instruction and workshops throughout the Country. His innovation and creativity, as well as his drive to improve fitness, has earned him recognition and awards.

All participants will receive a personal, high quality pedometer, a Certificate of Completion noting their individual step total and a log to continue tracking their steps over the next 6 months.

Registration forms are attached and available at all events sponsored by Roland, as well as at the Homewood Brushton YMCA, 7140 Bennett St., Pittsburgh, PA 15208, (412) 243-2900 and the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206-4055, (412) 661-8751.
