Hello again neighbors!

The “munging” of the address in the “From:” header means replacing it with the address of the list. Doing this allows our list to follow all of the rules required for exchanging email with other sites, but you might not immediately be able to tell who the sender was. I’ll see if it is possible to do something else to make it easier to see who the messages are from.

When I mentioned the “Reply-To:” header, I wasn’t considering that this might be unfamiliar since mail clients don’t always show it. The original “From:” header address is placed in this header so when you reply you will reply to the original sender.

Neighbors,

I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was great! We should all be thankful that Bob does a great job of moderating the Highland Park Neighborhood mailing list! Now here's an update about this list:

This mailing list will now always munge addresses in the "From:" headers of posts. When you reply to a message you receive from the list, use the address in the "Reply-To:" header, which already should be the default.

This munging was already happening for some posts. It wasn't happening for the ones that really mattered though, such as Gmail, which is why the change was made to apply to all messages.

This change will improve the email reputation of the list and the server that runs it. That also means it will improve deliverability - so messages make it to the inboxes of the recipients and not their junk mailboxes.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions about this change or about anything else related to the list.
