Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to let you all know about a great volunteer opportunity! GTECH
(www.gtechstrategies.org) is a non-profit here in Pittsburgh that's
addressing the issue of vacant lots (Did you know - we have nearly
6,000 acres of vacant lots in the city?!)
Some of the lots we are managing are right here in the area! This
coming Wednesday (May 27th) we will be working on a field behind
Pennley Apartments (the apartments at the corner of Penn and Negley)
from 4pm until 7 or so. Come after work, come for an hour or more or
less, come and check it out. This is an open volunteer night, so no
major restrictions.
Some things I ask:
*NO SANDALS! We will be using some heavy hand tools (pick mattocks) -
close toed shoes only, preferably work boots.
*Please bring a water bottle to cut back on waste - I'll have a jug of
water for refills.
*Youth are welcome, but please realize that the really there are heavy
tools being swung - the really little ones are such a great match for
this work.
*Planting on vacant lots is good physical labor - be ready to sweat.
The soil is rough and needs some TLC - this isn't good top soil, so a
bit more work is needed.
Any questions, please contact me at m.copeland@gtechstrategies.org or

Hope to see some of you out there!
