I just got a call from Medicare, unsolicited, and want to warn others.

The caller was a woman who sounded like she had made a thousand phone calls today.   She wasn't necessarily old but just very tired sounding and announced that she was calling from Medicare.

I said at first, as I say to other robo calls, even from those to whom we donate:      "we don't do anything over the phone" or "I don't answer these calls" and she said "You just did."     I was on alert because yesterday I had a call from a friend from out of town who had recently been scammed by an alert on her computer from Medicare which said "there is a problem, do not close your computer, and gave a phone no. to call, WHICH SHE DID, unfortunately.    It led to her losing money.

So I hung up on this person and am writing to alert you to not engage with someone from Medicare unless they sent a letter in advance or you initiated the call.

They only have to succeed with a small fraction of people in order to succeed.   We all trust Medicare and scammers know this.
