PennDOT Announces Highland Park Bridge Traffic Stoppages occur Saturday

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists intermittent, short-term traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less on the Highland Park Bridge (Route 1005) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur this Saturday, Aug. 28, weather permitting.

Crews will be resetting expansion bearings on the bridge. Stoppages will occur as needed between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The work is included in a $2.8 million contract with Lone Pine Construction, Inc. of Bentleyville, PA, for improvements on several bridges in PennDOT District 11.

Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.

Southbound Route 28 Single Lane Closures Nightly this Weekend at 40th Street Bridge in Millvale

PennDOT District 11 is announcing single lane closures on southbound Route 28 at the 40th Street Bridge intersection in Millvale Borough, Allegheny County, will occur nightly this weekend, Aug. 27-30, weather permitting.

Crews will continue installing temporary traffic signals at the intersection. Lane closures should be expected on southbound Route 28 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and from 8 p.m. on Sunday through 5 a.m. on Monday. The signals are needed to accommodate the southbound traffic shift and northbound long-term single lane restriction scheduled to begin late Monday, Aug. 30.

The $23.5 million Route 28 East Ohio Street Improvement Project 40th Street Bridge work includes widening and reconstruction, drainage, concrete barrier, concrete curb and sidewalk, highway lighting, signing and pavement marking, sign structures, signals and ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) installation, wall construction, water line and sewer relocation, demolition, and other construction from about 1,300 feet north of the 31st Street Bridge (Route 2122) intersection to approximately 2,560 feet north of the 40th Street Bridge (Route 2124) interchange. The Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh is the prime contractor.

Short-Term Daylight Southbound Route 8/Northbound Route 28 On-Ramp Closures Resume Next Week in Etna

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists intermittent, short-term daytime closures of southbound Route 8 and the on-ramp from southbound Route 8 to northbound Route 28 in the area of the Etna Interchange in Allegheny County will occur as needed Aug. 30-Sept. 10.

The closures are needed for public safety and access as crews place structural steel for the new ramp from northbound Route 28 to northbound Route 8. The short-term closures will only occur as needed between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

Southbound Route 8 Closure (closed between the ramp to northbound Route 28 and the 62nd Street Robert D. Fleming Bridge)

Posted Detour:

·         Take ramp to northbound Route 28

·         Exit at the Highland Park Bridge

·         Cross bridge and access Route 8  

Southbound Route 8 ramp to northbound Route 28

Posted Detour:

·         Continue across the 62nd Street Robert D. Fleming Bridge

·         Turn left onto Butler Street

·         Cross Highland Park Bridge

·         Access northbound Route 28  

 

Lane closures and possible short-term traffic stoppages may also occur next week on Bridge Street between Butler Street and Route 8 in Etna.

Motorists should use caution, expect changing traffic patterns, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The work is part of the Etna Phase V project. The $27.2 million project will complete PennDOT’s effort to improve Route 28 through the Etna interchange area. Work includes interchange and roadway reconstruction, bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation, wall construction, approach roadway widening, drainage, guide rail, concrete barrier, curb, landscaping, highway lighting, signing and pavement markings, signals, and improvements on Route 28 from approximately 500 feet north of Exit 4 (Etna) to approximately 800 feet north of Exit 5A (Sharpsburg) in Etna and Sharpsburg boroughs and Shaler Township.

The prime contractor is Mascaro Contracting of Pittsburgh.
