Each January, Allegheny County participates in the national Point in Time count, and our local Continuum of Care is seeking volunteers to lend three hours of time to help support the homeless next week. This annual effort by homeless providers, local agencies, and local volunteers provides crucial data to HUD and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on the sheltered and unsheltered homeless in our community.
Teams will be visiting neighborhoods throughout Allegheny County each night Monday, January 23rd through Thursday, January 26th, 2017. All volunteers are partnered with and supported by a team member from a professional Street Outreach organization while out in the community. High participation and an accurate count will help to better support our neighbors in need. You can select neighborhoods of your choice near to where you live or work, and teams typically visit neighborhoods from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on those evenings.
If you are interested in participating, email Christopher Roach, Supervisor with Pittsburgh Mercy’s Street Outreach team, at croach@pittsburghmercy.org. He will follow up regarding scheduling and next steps.
