Thanks to all the neighbors who made recommendations for HVAC services. We were able to get J & A Heating to come out immediately and fix our problem, even at the late hour. Below are all of your responses.

I've been using Wade Heating & Cooling for the last dozen years,
and have been pretty happy. I do have to warn you that they're
almost certain to be backed up ... but anybody else who's any good
will be too. First cold snap of the season is crazy time for
that trade.

Paul Tedesco of Tedesco Heating has done the annual service and inspection on my furnace for several years. He is also a Highland Park resident.
We've used Day & Night HVAC - 412-488-3962 and have always had positive experiences with them ... and their prices are exceptionally reasonable.
