On Wednesday, December 16th, at 11:45pm, Zone 5 officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 5600 block of Wellesley Street in Highland Park. 

Officers arrived on scene to find a 28 year-old male victim on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the left side. The victim indicated that he was approached by two suspects, one black male and one black female, both wearing gray hooded sweatshirts, who dragged him into the street and tried to steal his bag. 

During the scuffle, the victim stated that one of the suspects shot him. The victim was transported to the hospital by EMS, where it was learned he also sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back. 

After the shooting, the suspects fled on food along Wellesley Street towards N. Highland Avenue. 

There is no further information at this time.
