City Council to Host Post Agenda and Public Hearing on Proposed Strip District Specially Planned District

Are you interested in better understanding the possible effects of the City of Pittsburgh creating a “Specially Planned District” along the Allegheny River in the Strip District?

On Tuesday, September 18th at 1:00pm City Council will be hosting a Post Agenda on legislation creating a Specially Planned District  on property in the Strip District that includes the Buncher Company's Strip District property and the Produce Terminal

A Post Agenda, defined as a meeting held after Council sessions where members of Council investigate or discuss a particular topic or piece of legislation, is a resource that allows Council Members and Pittsburgh residents to better understand broad topics, as well as specific pieces of legislation and the potential effects related to the City of Pittsburgh and its residents. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend the Post Agenda. The City also broadcasts City Channel Pittsburgh on Comcast Channel 13 and Verizon FiOS Channel 44. A Live Cable Channel Web Feed is also available here.

Council will also be hosting a Public Hearing on the proposed Specially Planned District on Tuesday, September 25th at 1:00pm. For more information about arranging a speaking time to voice your concerns, contact the City Clerk’s office.

This information can now be found at the District 7 website, where the database is available for download in excel form. Information is organized by zip code, and will be updated regularly by the District 7 Team.

Lawrenceville Branch of Carnegie Library to Receive “Spruce Up”

The Lawrenceville Branch of the Carnegie Library is getting a new look thanks to last year’s Our Library, Our Future voter initiative.

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is set to spruce up its Lawrenceville branch! In addition to receiving a “freshening up” with new paint, new furniture, and replaced upholstery, the Lawrenceville branch will also receive a new slate roof, refurbishment of the existing wood windows, and the replacement of the library’s antiquated heating system. To allow patrons to beat the heat during the summer months, the library will also receive central air conditioning that will cool throughout the Lawrenceville facility.

The Our Library, Our Future voter initiative was one element of a five-part plan to establish sustainable funding for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The initiative, which Councilman Dowd helped champion in District 7 and across the City of Pittsburgh, passed overwhelmingly, and will generate approximately $3 million annually. This summer, the Carnegie Library board took the initial steps required to launch an endowment campaign, the next step in building sustainable funding the for the Library’s future.

More information about the history of the Our Library, Our Future voter initiative, as well as an outline of Councilman Dowd’s involvement, is available on the “In the News” section of the District 7 webpage.
