These are great speakers and a bargain even at the ~$600 price point Magnepan offers them at. There are a number of glowing reviews on the web. The Maggie's are 4 ohm speakers so please make sure your amplifier is capable of driving them -- the RB-1080 will do very well.

Rotel RB-1080 power amplifier: http://www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/608/, new: $999, used: $450. A solid mid-end amplifier that rivals amps costing many times more. This is the "muscle" (amplification), you'll need a control unit ("brains") such as the RC-1080 below as well or an input source with a sufficient variable high-output signal, such as a CD player.

Rotel RC-1070 pre-amplifier: http://www.rotel.com/content/manuals/rc1070.pdf, new $500-600, used: $250, comes with remote control. A great no-nonsense pre-amp that goes well with the RB-1080.
