I reached out to Commander Lando to confirm. His response is below:

This inquiry is probably in reference to the Westboro Baptist Church. The followers of the late Fred Phelps will be in town next week.

They were kind enough to give advance warning on their website. The full list of protest locations and times is shown here:  http://www.godhatesfags.com/schedule.html

As with any group, as long as they are peaceful, we are required by the constitution and state laws to protect their first amendment rights to free speech.

I would strongly encourage everyone to pay them no attention. These people are professional protesters. They know exactly what they can and cannot get away with. They are never violent. Their goal is to spread their hatred and get people so enraged that the decent, normal people attack them and end up getting themselves arrested.

Best bet is to pretend they don't even exist. They will eventually pack up and go back to Topeka, Kansas.

Best regards,

Monica

Subject: "hate group" notice via pittsburgh police?

Did other CMU, Oakland and Central Catholic, Pitt, Duquesne folks get a notice from the police that a permited demonstration by an unspecified hate group is happening on our campuses 1-3 on oct 5? I'm hoping this is a hoax.
