I have a table that I constructed years ago when my kids were young, mainly out of 1" x 2"s to support a  4' X 8' model train layout (usually a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood) that makes it very easy to run wires to switches and other devices underneath the table.   If you are a model train enthusiast, and would like to get your setup off the floor, to a comfortable operating height,  you;ll know exactly what I mean.  (And if you aren't you probably don;t want this table.)
