Update for Saturday, August 30th


I hope everyone has a relaxing Labor Day weekend.  Please consider starting the weekend with a visit to the market.  The bounty of local produce at the market now is incredible.

Add to that the meat from Kennedys and all the other items from the other vendors at the market and surely it is worth a visit.

The Update....

J.L. KENNEDY MEAT STAND

Greenawalt Farm

 
Brian is in Somerset County today visiting the Amish farms. Items this week include tomatoes (several varieties), pickles, cukes, potatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes (various types), broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, swiss chard, green onions, sweet onions, leeks and hot and sweet peppers, fresh herbs.  In the bean department, green beans, limas and shelling beans.
 
In the fruit department: apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, 4 types of watermelon.  New varieties of "winter" squash arrive this week.  Brian have some organically grown such as cabbage, sweet onion and maybe others.
 
 
Greenawalt's always have fresh local eggs and many types of Amish canned items such as jellies and jams. They also have some cured meat items from Lancaster County.
 
Zang's Greenhouse... Rick have fresh sweet corn from McIlhinny Farm in Evans City.   Rick will also have fresh garlic, shallots, potatoes, green beans, wax beans, sweet onions, micro greens, cukes and pickles, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, peppers including pablanos and PA grown mushrooms.  In the fruit department:  nectarines, white and yellow peaches- all from Chambersburg.  Melons-  Watermelons and cantaloupes.  Rick will also have a few shipped in items to fill in the gaps.
 
Cucumbers are in good supply and in quantities suitable for canning.
 
 
California Connection-  We now have our full line of 2014 vintage oils to offer.  All are certified Extra Virgin by the Califorinia Olive Oil Council.  Four of the oils are also certified organic. Our offerings are:

New from California are freshly harvested and dried sour cherries. We also still have:

Apricots (organic)

Bing and Rainier Cherries
White Figs
Plouts

Raw almonds
Raw walnuts (organic)

Kew Park Coffee Bar-  Fresh roasted coffee from the farm in Jamaica.  At the juice bar we have valencia oranges from California and lemon aid.
 
Wheel and Wedge Cheese-   We have quite a strong supply of cheese right now, both local and regional.  We have fresh batches of Chevre and Feta from Riverview Dairy.  We also have a new shipment of cheese from God's Country in Potter County.
 
Pastamore' barrel-aged vinegars-  These are being brought to us by long time market customer Sylvia Lynch.  Offerings include basic balsamic vinegar, but also other flavored vinegars. Free tastes, of course.  Stop by and talk to Sylvia and try these vinegars. Flavors include:

- Sweet elderberry juice combined with our white balsamic vinegar creates a subtly sweet yet slightly tart flavor.

- Blackberry Balsamic  Pure balsamic vinegar is blended with blackberries to create a thick, rich and full-bodied vinegar.

- Dark Sweet Cherry Balsamic Vinegar  Combined with hand-picked Dark Sweet Cherries create the perfect flavor as a salad dressing for spinach or fresh greens.

- Citrus Balsamic Vinegar has been blended with sweet oranges, tangerines, and a splash of lime to create this inspirational and versatile vinegar.

The Greek Gourmet- will have homemade spinach and meat pies at the market each week- in addition to 20+ flavors of hummus.  Stop by and talk to Jack at the booth.

BANDY Woodworks All items are made in their shop using local reclaimed and salvaged wood and non-toxic finishes.  They just got in a fresh bactch of beautiful cutting boards.
