This month the Board of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority gave final approval for Veolia Water North America to provide interim executive management services to the Authority for 12 months, set to begin immediately. Veolia Senior Executive Jim Good has begun serving as PWSA’s Executive Director, filling a 20-month vacancy of PWSA’s Executive Director position.
During its 12-month term, Veolia will provide management services to the Authority while also analyzing PWSA’s daily operations. Once Veolia gathers information about PWSA’s day-to-day operations, it will provide a plan to elevate the Authority to best-in-class standards. Particular attention will be paid to improving customer service, management practices, financial stability, and general operations.

The District 7 office is currently compiling a list of vacant, neglected, or problem properties across the District in hopes to improve the quality of life for all District 7 residents. Working to improve the conditions of blighted properties throughout District 7 is one of Councilman Dowd’s highest priorities, whether it is by contacting absentee property owners and landlords, or by working closely with Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works to adequately maintain publicly owned land throughout the District.
Do you know of a vacant, neglected, or problem property on your street? Contact Moira Egler, the District 7 Constituent Services Assistant, at moira.egler@pittsburghpa.gov or by phone at 412-255-2140, or feel free to use the District 7 feedback form on our website.
In its most recent meeting, the Stanton Heights Neighborhood Association voted to approve the next step in creating a parklet at the corner of Stanton & Woodbine. The planning effort began more than a year ago, after a Stanton Heights resident first approached Comcast about turning its lot at the corner of Stanton Avenue and Woodbine Street into a public greenspace. Comcast offered to dedicate a portion of the lot to become a community-planned healing garden, recognizing the tragic 2009 killing of three police officers in the neighborhood. Read more about the history of the park on page five of the June 2012 issue of The Bulletin.
A copy of the approved conceptual plan for the greenspace is available on the Stanton Heights Neighborhood Association’s blog or by clicking this direct link. Email stantonheights@gmail.com with questions about how to get involved or about the park itself.
