EAST OF LIBERTY PART 2: THE FEAR OF US TO BE SCREENED AT

ALLEGHENY UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH

Local filmmaker Chris Ivey will be screening the second chapter of EAST OF LIBERTY: THE FEAR OF US at 7:30 p.m. TOMORROW at Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church on the North Side. The second installment of the series, The Fear of Us gives voice to residents and business owners in regard to East Liberty’s recent development.

“The goal of the ‘East of Liberty’ series,” said Ivey, “is to create a historical document that captures the essence of change in the community and to bring to front all taboos – from gentrification fears to neighborhood violence – which most redevelopment schemes push to the background.” He said that this series should create dialogue for the community to discuss how to bring about better understanding among us, creating communities that are more whole.

Admission for this event will be available at the door for $5; there will be a filmed question-and-answer session to follow.

About the artist:

Chris Ivey is an award-winning filmmaker who has received recognition for his short films at the Tokyo Video Festival, Carolina Film Festival and the Cin(E) Poetry Festival. He has won an Addy Award for the Best Broadcast Campaign for commercials he directed for Jones Soda Co. and the Washington Wild Things baseball club.

One of Ivey’s passions is to use his talents as a commercial director to help artists and small businesses drive their success. Through style and innovation, he proves that big budgets are not necessary to create memorable works.

Passion for this project is the force behind East of Liberty. “I am an artist first,” said Ivey, “then filmmaker. But from the beginning of my life, I have been a minority, and have experienced life as a minority. One of the goals of this project was to give the audience a view of life and how the events affect them – even when they aren’t the ones directly affected.

East of Liberty is funded in part by The Sprout Fund, The Multi-Cultural Arts Initiative, The Pittsburgh Foundation, Anonymous donors, and by the artist himself. Executive Producer is Chris Ivey. Associate producer: Megan Fitzgerald.
