The Office of Community Health & Safety was established to address longstanding health, safety, and justice issues in the City of Pittsburgh. The
office is tasked with redirecting city resources to better address community needs through housing, social services, public health, and social work experts who can assist community members and first responders in situations that require longer-term support,
harm reduction approaches, and other services. |

We're taking our Community
Listening Campaign on the road. We want to meet with you in your community to learn what you feel the strengths, skills, and assets are your neighborhood. In addition to attending community events and meetings, we will be hosting pop-up discussions, co-hosted
with your neighbors. What you share and our ongoing connection with you is critical to understanding where we are now as a city and where we need to go in the future. Together we can develop a shared vision for a safer and healthier Pittsburgh for all.
To invite us out to listen to residents in your neighborhood, contact us at ochspgh@pittsburghpa.gov.

EMS Expands Prehospital Buprenorphine Program
|
|
|
In April, OCH&S and Pittsburgh's EMS (Emergency Medical Service) trained paramedics on buprenorphine administration in the field.
This training is part of an expansion of the pilot program that allows paramedics to administer a recovery medication to treat opioid withdrawal and connect patients to a telemedicine bridge clinic where they can access harm reduction and recovery supports.
This set of trainings more than doubled the size of the program, expanding to Pittsburgh's Northside and East End.

Overdose Prevention Training for City Employees
|
|
Anyone can respond to an overdose. To prepare City of Pittsburgh employees to support our neighbors,
Josh Schneider, OCH&S Overdose Prevention Coordinator, has been providing overdose prevention training to city employees, most recently our partners in Public Works, Park Rangers, and Citi Parks Lifeguards. If you would like Narcan or training to respond to
an overdose, reach out to ochspgh@pittsburghpa.gov.

OCH&S Opioid Overdose Dashboard
|
|
|
In partnership with Pittsburgh EMS last year, our office created the Opiod
Overdose Dashboard, to ensure regular sharing of opioid-related overdose insights. The Opioid Overdose Dashboard uses de-identified (HIPAA compliant) data from the Bureau of EMS to provide information regarding opioid overdose calls for service in the
City of Pittsburgh on a monthly basis. The dashboard also includes neighborhood-level mapping, demographic information, and other statistics regarding care provided by Public Safety professionals.

BigBurgh.com is a web app that connects Pittsburgh residents to free, low-barrier services, events and programs. It is a run by
OCH&S to ensure that needed resources can be identified quickly and privately.
This week our BigBurgh VISTA member Alena Chulick visited the Veteran Leadership Program (VLP) in the Strip District to see the great work they do for our veteran neighbors. They discussed VLP's comprehensive approach to serving veterans by getting them not
only housing first, but food, clothes, transportation, benefits coordination, and more.
