Join us November 13 + 14 as we begin our 2021-22 Season with a live concert of acapella spirituals arranged by William Dawson, "Uprooted."

Dawson was born in Alabama of African-American heritage. A graduate of the Horner Institute of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Music, William Dawson later studied at the Chicago Musical College and then at the American Conservatory of Music where he received his master's degree.

Dawson's best-known works are arrangements of and variations on spirituals and said that the composition was an attempt to convey the missing elements that had been lost when Africans came into bondage outside their homeland. We will be singing some of his most popular songs such as "Ain’t a That Good News", "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel," as well as other musical arrangements not as frequently performed.
